How to get close to God

How to get close to God

If you feel like you’ve been drifting from God and are trying to find your way back, there is one thing that I want to stress to you: He is right where you left him, waiting with open arms. You don’t have to let guilt or past situations hold you back from God. Don’t beat yourself up over things that have happened if you’ve drifted from him. It hurts him when you’re hurting. And he’s waiting for you.

The most important thing you can do is pray. Pray to God and let him know everything you’re feeling. What you want, and ask for help and strength to get there. Reading your bible helps too. Get into his word! That is very helpful for getting closer to God again. Becauase when we get into his word we’re learning, and it’s a very comforting experience and helps us get close to him.

Another thing, Why do you think you’ve been drifting from him? Has something you’ve done, or something that has happened made you feel distant? Or is it your surroundings? These are all different questions and they are all answered in different ways. If you’ve done something or something has happened, you should talk to God. Tell him you knew what happened was wrong and you’re sorry and asking for forgiveness. Then continue to grow towards him again and grow strong in that relationship. If it’s your surroundings, such as friends that aren’t christian, maybe you should try to seperate yourself from them. If your always around negativity, cursing, innappropriate behavior and other actions, it may have part in you feeling far from God. Seperate yourself from the bad, negative things and surround yourself with the positive, good christian things. And christian people that you can get close to God with.

Following God, is very amazing and really can not even be put into words. But it’s not always easy. None of us are perfect. We’re all going to have those times that we feel like we’ve drifted from God and go running to cling back to him. We all have to constantly work at the relationship to keep it strong. We’re never done learning. But everything we do and work towards with God is all worth it.

Some bible verses for this topic:

Romans 12:1-2: Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.  Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Psalm 100:2-4: Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

But I encourage you to all read your bible and find your own verses as well. A bible verse is not  a quick fix that will automatically get you that relationship. Praying, and spending time with God and time studying his word will help you strengthen that relationship.
