Why is waiting on God so hard?

We have all asked God for something and expect to probably have what we asked for instantly. Whatever it was that we asked him for, it probably didn’t happen, months pass then maybe a year and then it’s that moment where you think that isn’t going to answer us we receive what we have asked for. It is really hard to wait on God’s timing and hard to comprehend exactly why God has made us wait so long. Ecclesiastes 3:11 Says “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end." His perspective on our lives is one that we can’t even imagine we may think that whatever we are asking God for, receiving it instantly will probably enrich our life but he doesn’t work like that. He knows what is going to benefit us and what is going to hurt us because he is perfect Psalm 18:30 says “As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.

Lamentations 3:25-26 says “The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him;  it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD." Yes it is hard to wait on the lord but take comfort in knowing that he does what is BEST for us. How about some examples from the bible to help us understand that God’s timing is Perfect.

  1. Jesus Himself had to wait until He was 30 years old before God baptized Him with the Holy Spirit and anointed Him with His power to go on His three and half year miracle ministry before He went to the cross to get all of us saved

  2. Jesus had to wait again for 40 days before He ascended to the Father after His resurrection from the grave

  3. Moses was in the backside of a desert for 40 years before he was sent in by God to rescue the children of Israel from the Egyptians

  4. The Israelites had to wait for 430 years before God delivered them from the Egyptians

  5. David had to wait for 13 years before he became king of Israel

  6. Abraham had to wait 25 years for the birth of his son Isaac

  7. Noah had to wait for 120 years from the time God told him to build the ark until the time of the flood actually occurring

  8. The apostles had to wait 10 days after Jesus had ascended before they had received the Holy Spirit in the upper room

Here are some scriptures to take comfort in:

  • Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”     1 Peter 5: 6-7
  • I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word I do hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morningPsalm 130:5-6
  • Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!Psalm 27:14
  • My times are in Your hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies, and from those who persecute me.” Psalm 31:15
  • Truly my soul silently waits for God; from Him comes my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved … My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved.Psalm 62:1-2, 5-6
  • And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You. Deliver me from all my transgressions” Psalm 39:7-8
  • I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps.Psalm 40:1-2

God’s ways and timing are absolutely undeniably perfect. The sooner we understand his ways and how he rules our daily lives, we will understand why his timing is so perfect. This fast-paced world that we live in affects us in a way that leads us to not trust God, let us learn how to have patience and know that the almighty king has an amazing plan with our lives.
